Reflexology
Reflexology has a rich history dating back to the Egyptian era - 2500 B.C. and has a strong affinity to acupuncture and acupressure. Reflexology is the art, science and technique of balancing the mind, body and spirit using a finger and thumb manipulation to stimulate minute reflex points found on soles of the feet and in some cases points found in the hands.
Over 7200 nerves end in the feet. These nerve endings form an intricate latticework that encompasses the entire body and when stimulated activate the human bodies inherent ability to heal its self.
By stimulating the minute reflex points on the feet, healing energy is released along the neural pathways and body meridians (the lines that are used in acupuncture and acupressure) this helps to restore natural balance to physiological and psychological functions and processes of the body.
Reflexology should not be confused with massage.
Reflexology's finger and thumb technique doesn't use strokes that are associated with massage: enfleurage - long sweeping strokes, tapotement - hacking, cupping or pummeling, Vibration - creating a shaking sensation, friction - circular movements with pressure against underlying structures, petrissage - deep pressure to an area.
Massage stroke are used when having a pedicure. A reflexology session and a pedicure massage are very different experiences.
Research suggest that over 75% of health problems, illness and disorders can be linked to continuous stress that results in tension, thereby having a detrimental effect on the body. By promoting a deep sense of relaxation, reflexology encourages the bodys inherent ability to balance its self:
Total relaxation
Reflexology can be beneficial to all age groups. Drugless and non-invasive reflexology and will not conflict with medication(s), exacerbate or make an existing condition more acute.
Contra Indication (Who can not have)
People who have pacemaker fitted are unable to have reflexology. The bodies natural neural impulse system will increase the active of the pacemaker.
What Will I Experience?
Although many reflexologists practice the "no pain no gain" method. I personally feel that it is far more important for you to relax. Pain is not required for reflexology to be effective or beneficial, neither is intense pressure.
However, sometimes it's unavoidable and you will experience sensitivity in your feet. Sensitivity is caused by an energy blockage in the meridian being manipulated. By repeatedly working (manipulating) this point the blockage should be removed allowing energy to flow freely, enhancing your well-being. Each persons experience is individual and unique, however, you may experience:
Reflexology helps to detoxify the body. We suggest aiding that process by drink two 8 oz glasses of fluid after your session.
