Aging With Elegance and Grace

Aging isn’t just about the deterioration of cells within the body and their inability to regenerate with characteristic youthful vibrancy. Anti-aging is about your total history. Each cell reflects every thought, every word and every action that you have ever taken in your life.

Do you realize every word that you have spoken whether silently or audibly is imprinted within the cells in your body? Word as you know through your personal experience can be a powerful thing. Word can make you happy, words can make you sad; they impact you emotionally and physically. This is why you can hear something and you physically react by feeling nauseated. Well your cells will remember the experience and store it. What this storage means, is that you become the place that archive your personal history and this an integral apart of your aging process.

There is no doubt that we are going to age, but I believe that aging can be accomplished with elegance and grace and without looking ravaged by one’s personal history.

So what can one do about their history? Nothing! Because you can’t change the past, and who would want to? But you can influence the future by how you choose to think and speak NOW! It doesn’t matter your current age you can influence your aging process NOW today by changing your perception of life from pessimistic to a "hopeful optimist." Seeing the glass quarter full instead of three quarters empty or seeing an empty glass as an opportunity to fill it with what you want.

Both traditional and holistic practitioners agree that meditation is one of the leading anti-aging techniques available today. In addition to the anti-aging benefits received, meditation helps with a whole host of other things to…reduction in stress, lowering of blood pressure, reduction in pain to name a few. Some researchers even claim that their test results prove that meditation can increase the effectiveness of medication being taken, this applies to both over-the-counter drugs and prescription medication. In my next blog on Aging with Grace we’ll take a look at the different types of meditations technique available.

Contact me at wendy@aromaprofiles.com

or 702-735-0544

People’s lives have been made healthier and happy, even living longer. In the worse case scenario’s I’ve seen people die as a result of a complication from all the above. So it’s a mixed bag. What is important here is that you do what makes you happy.

That being said, I feel the health and beauty industry has not given us all the fact. The biggest fact that has been omitted is the power of your mind and the impact your thoughts can have on the aging process. Yes eating what’s right for you and exercising may defy aging. But unless the mind is truly in sync with the process of aging at 70 years old you realize you’ve been fed a lot all bull by some extraordinary ingenious marketers, who have somehow tapped into our deepest darkest vulnerabilities and insecurities; aging and dying.

Being in sync doesn’t mean just thinking younger, acting younger or hanging out with a younger crowd, it’s about how you process life though your viewfinder. How you deal with the stress, family and friends health issues, government etc.

People have a tendency just to focus on the good, but it’s the overcoming of hardship, the hurts, the pain and high hurdles that force us to stretch ourselves…then acknowledge add a new facet(s) of self to the ever evolving essence of who we are. Then find the good or the joy or the blessing in the situation.

Contact me wendy@aromaprofiles.com

The Beauty Bar

Who Set this standard?

Over the last three decades we have been instructed, nudged, poked and indoctrinated as to what beauty really is. Someone set a bar or a standard and told us we have to achieve this or we aren’t beautiful. Go Twiggy, who in her 60's still looks like she could use a few good meals! We’ve gone along with the programs; after all who doesn’t want to be beautiful?

We’ve endured from colored contact lens to hair extensions, to tattooed eye brows, lips and eyeliner and now tattoos on every inch of the body. We’ve pierced our ears, tongues, brows, belly buttons and now every inch of our body. Our hair has been fried, dyed, glued, curled and layout to the side. Bombshell blonde to bodacious red to ravens wing and every colour in between has graced both thick and thin strands of hair.

Our skin has been liberally and literally smothered in anti-aging serums, free radical cream, oxygen facials, European facials, lipo cream, acid peels, sun block, cucumber eye pads, waxing hairs, sugaring hairs, lasers, and threading. From pan to Mac to Leeza Gibbons mineral make up. We’ve happily applied these products to our faces with little regard to what they are made of and how they will effect years down the line.

Our diets have been filled with bran and fiber, now in a colorless powder that doesn’t turn into a congealed slimy mass when added to water or juice. We had eggs, then no eggs, then egg whites and now eggs are cool again. Cholesterol, the good cholesterol and bad cholesterol…people falling out when they removed all cholesterol from there dietary intake. What they neglected to tell us was that our bodies naturally make cholesterol as part of our defense mechanism to protect our arteries when under stress. In addition to this we’ve been delivered a bill of goods that states “cholesterol causes heart disease”…this is a bit of mythological fiction…but then again I might have it wrong. Vitamin E, antioxidants, pomegranate, blue berries and acia berries (the new wonder berry) all hailed as the next coming for anti-aging.

We had fat sucked out, fat cut out, been nipped and tucked, noses reduced, faces and breasts augmented and aligned. We’ve been tortured and run the gambit of Grapefruit, Weight Watchers, Scarsdale, Atkins, South Beach, Jenny Craig, Cookie and wait for it… drum roll please, “the chocolate diets.” Speed, killer Phen-phen, colonics, stomach bands, modified gastric by passes. Aerobics, treadmills, kick boxing, spin classes, elliptical machines, power yoga, ball, pilates and zumba all have been introduced to help us achieve our desired look and achieve the goal set by the beauty bar. who set the standard?…anywho, it’s all to the power of good.

To replace the hormone or not replace hormones that has been the question! 40 years old is the new 30…in looks. 50 is now the new 40. 60 is the new 50 and at 70 you realize it you’ve been fed a lot all bull by some extraordinary ingenious marketers, who have somehow tapped into our deepest darkest vulnerabilities and insecurities; aging and dying. Ha! Like that’s not going to happen anyway. And of course somethings never change...or not in my life time at any rate, size 8 is still the socially acceptable dress size.

I have a question, in fact I have four questions, is 20 years old now the new 10 and is that what's wrong with kids today? Because from what I can see most 10 year olds act like they’re 10 going on 30! Does any of the stuff that we choose to subject ourselves to really make us younger in the long run? Will you, will I live longer as a result? And who the hell invented Viagra anyway? And last but not least who set the standard? I’ll continue my ramblings on Beauty Bar in next week’s blog.

From England With Love

There are no accidents in life, no coincidences nor are there random acts of kindness or otherwise. What there is is life. Life and choices. As you may or may not know I went to London for the first time in 16 years. Wow! How time has flown and in that flight how much I’ve grown. So many things have changed, and yet, have remained the same. How could that be? In some respects I experienced a sort of surrealism, one could say much like Alice falling up the rabbit hole as opposed to down.

The trip was poignantly filled with seemly random vignettes. Snapshot of life…my life, seen through the view finder lens of someone else. And that someone else would be me. Wow! How I have grown.

I enjoyed seeing and meeting my family. The young ones have now grown into adults and the older ones are becoming what I affectionately term, “the ol’ wrinklies.” I was elated to rekindle my friendship with the sisters of my soul. After being gone for so long I assumed ( ass u me) I would struggle to find my fit within the framework and the ebb and flow of life in England. That was my expectation and I was sorely disappointed. I fell into a place that was comfortable for me. Wow! How I have grown.

This trip was about three things;

Affirming who I thought I had become – now I know.

Affirming what I thought I knew – now I know and

Rekindling of soul relationships!

England has changed, but change is good because it signifies growth, as the old ways disintegrate and the new things take its place. What changes have I seen? People appear not to be as proud of their homes as they were when I was growing up. But then most owned their homes, and if they were rented out, it was a portion of the home with the owner living onsite.

Many home have been converted into two flats or apartments. These flats are rented not owned (owner not living onsite) and with that some… “hear me clearly…not all” some people display a type of disregard and disrespect for the property because it’s not theirs. Let’s face it, why should they really be bothered with the upkeep and aesthetic, after all that’s what they pay rent for...isn’t it? The owner is only interested in the monies made from the rent, so it’s a catch 22. If it, the property, gets too bad, dilapidated, “we can always rent somewhere new.” Despite so witnessing the changes that are occurring, England land of my birth is still a majestic beautiful country with much to offer.

Think about it...It gave you me…so for that reason alone you should agree! LOL!

Will I return? The answer is yes. Soon than I think! This trip I want to stay in the heart of London. I’m going to be a tourist in my own country and view many of the sites that I had seen while attending school field trips. I’m looking forward to this.

Would I live in England fulltime? The weather report today says, NO! Las Vegas, Nevada is home. As I told my friend Carla last night and I quote, “I'm proud to a Brit and will always be a Brit I love my heritage and the land of my birth. I'm not an american nor am I aspiring to become one, am I proud to announce that Las Vegas for all its glittering flaws is definitely definitely home. As I drove up the street to our house...I felt that flutter in the pit of my stomach tell me, "Wendy your home!" And with that came that little sigh of release that signifies contentment.

England or should I say London is a contender to be my vacation home - perhaps a second home...but not a home away from home.”They say home is where the heart is. Well my heart belongs to Las Vegas! And Dee!

In closing I just want to say this, "I give thanks to myself for all that I have chosen to do in this life...wether I deem it good, bad or indifferent. For each choice has made who I am today. And for that I am eternally grateful to ME! The greatest love is the love of self! I love me and therefore it allows me the freedom to love all others without trying to change them!

Namaste
